Your Coach for Healthy Nutritional Guidance

What you don’t know about food can hurt you.

The world’s leading causes of illness and death, including heart disease, cancer, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes, are strongly influenced by what you eat. The right nutritional decisions and habits can prevent disease and even reverse existing medical conditions.

Nutrition can be complex and confusing.

Everywhere you look in this always-connected world, there’s conflicting advice, varying opinions, and fad diets that often do more harm than good. I’ll help you cut through the noise, understand the hard facts, and make the smartest and healthiest food choices for you and your family.

There is a duality to the world of nutrition.

In reality, many foods aren’t “entirely good” or “entirely bad.” They represent a balance of benefits and drawbacks that should be explored and understood. What makes my approach and my website unique is that I embrace a complete conversation about food: The good, the bad, and all the gray areas.

I’m here to bring clarity to your nutritional journey.

I'm on a mission to educate, inspire, and support you every step of the way. Everyone needs access to quality information in order to make good decisions, and you’ve come to the right place! Proper nutritional habits can make all the difference in your life. Are you ready to eat to live?

ABOUT DR. AKUA WOOLBRIGHT

WHY HEALTHY EATING MATTERS:

Your Diet May Be Destructive

The Standard American Diet (SAD) is designed for disease. High-fat, high-calorie, and highly addictive foods starve our bodies of what they need to survive, thrive, and combat illness. The U.S. is among the most obese countries on the planet – and the devastating effects of unhealthy diets are prevalent in African-American communities throughout the nation.
Less than 10% of American adults and adolescents eat enough fruits and vegetables.

Daily consumption of fruits and vegetables can reduce the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and various forms of cancer.

90% of Americans consume more than the recommended amount of sodium in their daily life.
Eating too much sodium has been linked to leading causes of illness and death in the U.S., including high blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke.

40% of American adults and 19% of young people between the ages of 2 and 19 suffer from obesity.

Obesity increases the risk of several serious and deadly conditions, including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke, gallbladder disease, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea, depression, anxiety, body pain and many types of cancer.

Obesity is associated with 40% of cancers diagnosed in the U.S.

The Mantra of Healthy Eating: Whole Foods, Plant-Based

A nutrient-dense, plant-based diet is a healthy foundation that can reduce the risk of disease and improve the quality of your life. The “whole foods, plant-based” mantra will keep you on the path to a healthier, stronger, and more rewarding future.

Focus on whole, natural foods.

Choose foods that are whole, unprocessed, and made purely by nature. Steer clear of refined, highly processed, and factory-made foods. Include organic, local, and seasonal produce when possible.

Embrace the power of plants.

You don’t need to go vegan! No matter what type of diet you follow, eat a colorful variety of plants and embrace the challenge of Eating the Rainbow. Rethink your plate to put plants in the spotlight.

Healthy fats are a real thing.

By making whole, natural foods the cornerstones of your diet, you’ll get healthy fats from sources such as nuts and avocados. Reduce extracted oils and processed fats from your diet.

Nourish yourself with nutrient-dense foods.

To get the most bang from every bite, eat foods that are rich in nutrients compared to their calorie count. Look for a wide spectrum of vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, and antioxidants.

Adrienne

“Eight pounds are gone! I make sure my salads are very colorful and I pick a new fruit and vegetable to try like you suggested. I have made up my mind that I have to eat like this forever. Not having heartburn, acid backing up in my throat and headaches is the motivation.”

Suzette

“I am enjoying your classes and your spirit immensely. Dr. Akua, you are so knowledgeable and down to earth, a winning combination. The information is enlightening and do-able because of the way you share and impart the information. I'm also down 15 pounds from the beginning of the year.”

J.B.

“In just two weeks I started to see changes and was feeling better. So far, I have lost 5 pounds even with cheating a little. Weight loss is one of my main goals. I just had foot surgery so will not be able to be very active for the next six weeks which makes this way of eating even more important.”
